When Juliet Burke was first introduced on LOST I had no idea I would love her as much as I do now. Elizabeth Mitchell was a brilliant addition to the cast and I could not imagine anyone else playing Juliet. She made this character so likable and she quickly became my favorite. Juliet was selfless, sweet, and caring but those qualities were often overlooked because of one word: Other. She was automatically singled out and untrusted by the plane crash survivors because of her past alliances. She didn't fit in with the Others, she didn't fit in with the survivors, she didn't ever really have a place. Once she was on the island she built up walls to protect herself and was judged for it. She wanted to leave as much as the next guy, if not more. Once Flight 815 crashed, her loyalty was tested. Juliet was on one side, her own. All she wanted was to go home to the one place where she was accepted, back to her sister and her nephew. Juliet didn't care about what other people thought of her. At first she did what she thought was best for herself but overtime she began to put other people before herself and tried to do what was best for them. Her ache to go home didn't stop her from putting every other person on the island she could on "The Zodiac" to get to the freighter before she did. Her selflessness and want to save lives and help people was shown more and more throughout the series. Saving a man with a burning arrow lodged in his chest, killing Danny to help Sawyer and Kate escape, and even saving Ben's life after everything he had put her through. Twice. Juliet was not perfect, she made lots of mistakes but that only made her more relatable. She was a beautiful character who sacrificed everything for the people she cared about. She gave up six years of her life to The Island on faith that her sister was cured. She died to save her friends and the man that she loved. She was so strong but at the same time was so easily broken. I enjoyed watching her journey throughout the series and seeing how the character progressed. She had so many layers that had to be peeled back before finally getting to the core of who she really was and to realize that the deceitfulness and lying had been an act. Her relationships with the other characters were such a delight to watch change as people began to warm up to her. Juliet was an amazing character with incredible growth.
